New Ideas.
This weekend I was busy at the Baltimore Clayworks taking a great workshop from Shoko Teruyama and Matt Kelleher. They did demos of building over a bisque mold and Shoko showed us all how she gets her lovely imagery on her pots. They were both really interesting to listen to and I'm glad I finally got some hand building lessons! I have been working more and more with hand building but I never really learned since I was so focused on the potters wheel in school. I pretty much feel like I've been making it up as I go but this weekend I learned that I wasn't that far off! Now I just need to find some time to get into the studio and try some of these new ideas out! Good thing spring break is only 2 days away:)

I love how it looks like there's a piece of fabric that was colored in slip/glaze that was laid on top of the piece? how did you get that coloring to act that way? what is it... I must know :)
kudos on a beautiful piece :)
I'd love to take a workshop like that, too bad I live so far away.
Kyle, the pictures in this post are actually from Shoko, one of the artists in the workshop I took. She works in red earthenware and white slip with scraffito decoration. Then she glazes using a variety of colored clear and matte glazes fired to 04. Check out her site, it's really beautiful work.
Linda-I'm super lucky to live so close to the clayworks and I often take advantage! When I have the money at least:)
Wow and wow. Shoko's work is amazing. What a great opportunity for you...I'm jealous!
